Website Partnership & Backlink Guide

We’re thrilled to partner with you and appreciate your agreement to include a backlink to Skydive the Wasatch on your website. By working together, we can increase our online visibility and drive more traffic to both of our sites. Thank you for your support!

What is a Backlink?

In the simplest form, a backlink is a link from one website to another. <- Just like that! It’s also known as an inbound link or incoming link. Search engines like Google use backlinks as a ranking factor to determine the authority and relevance of a website. When another website links to your website, it’s like a vote of confidence that your content is valuable and trustworthy. The more high-quality backlinks your website has, the more likely it is to rank higher in search engine results.

How Backlinks Benefit Us Both

Backlinks benefit both of our businesses in several ways. By adding a backlink to our website, you’re not only helping us increase our online visibility and drive more traffic to our site, but you’re also showing support for small businesses in the local community. And as a part of our partnership, we’re happy to reciprocate and add a backlink to your website on our Partners page or in a blog post. This way, we can both benefit from increased online exposure and potentially attract new customers.

The more high-quality websites that link to our websites, the more authority the sites have in the eyes of search engines like Google. This can lead to better search engine rankings, which means more potential customers can find us both.

How to Include a Backlink on Your Website

To include the backlink, simply add a hyperlink to our website on your website. When it comes to the location of that hyperlink, there are a few options to choose from depending on the type of content you have on your website.

Standard Blog Post

One option is to create a new blog post based on the template that we’ve provided below. Because the backlinks are already provided in the template, this is probably the easiest option and will help us get the most value from the backlinks.

Custom Blog Post

Another option is to write a blog post that’s tailored specifically to your audience and then add hyperlinks based on the hyperlink guide below. This approach allows you to create content that resonates with your readers while still providing valuable backlinks to our website. Please make sure to include as many of the keywords and hyperlinks as possible from our hyperlink guide so that we can get the most out of our partnership.

Partners Page or Directory

Another option is to add the backlink to your partners page or directory. This would allow your audience to easily find and access information about our business and showcase your commitment to promoting local businesses.

Thank you again for your partnership and support. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Attributing Traffic to Your Website

A good way for us to give you all of the credit that you deserve for sending people to our site is by using UTM parameters. UTM parameters are tags that you can add to the end of a URL to track where website traffic is coming from.

We use Google Analytics and other analytic tools to track our website traffic and see how many visitors we’re getting and where they’re coming from. This helps us optimize our marketing strategy and improve our partnerships.

There are three main parameters that we use to track traffic on our site. Here’s what they are and what they mean:

  • Source: This is the website or platform that sent the traffic to your website. For example: Email, Partner, Facebook, or Google. Partner is the source we use for website partnerships.
  • Medium: This is the type of traffic that came to your website. For example, organic (from search engines), referral (from another website), or social (from social media). We like to use “Referral” for website partnerships.
  • Campaign: This is the name of the specific marketing campaign that brought the traffic to your website. This is the most important one because it’s where we can attribute the traffic to your business! So the Campaign name should be your business name (with no spaces, although you can use dashes like so: your-business-name).

To use UTM parameters, you simply add them to the end of a URL with a question mark (?) followed by the parameter name and value. For example, this is what a link WITHOUT tracking would look like:

<a href="https://skydivethewasatch.com">Skydive the Wasatch</a>

And this is what a link WITH tracking would look like:

<a href="https://skydivethewasatch.com/?utm_source=partner&utm_medium=article&utm_id=pre-written-blog-post&utm_campaign=YOUR-BUSINESS-NAME">Skydive the Wasatch</a>

If you need help building a link/URL with UTM parameters, google has a great campaign URL builder tool.
